What are the pros and cons of each side? What goes into making that decision? If you choose to become an SME, how do you hone those skills? MEETING
Young Professionals Meeting at the CEATI T&D Conference (November 2023)
Featuring Raymond Lings, CEATI Technical Advisor, this session focused on the long-term career destination of defining your own career path. Some insights shared with attendees included: Find balance between being a specialist and generalist. Don’t let a difficult direct manager become a distraction. Focus on the broader industry – Build “your brand” outside of your employer (e.g., participate in industry standards, working groups, CEATI, etc.). Develop a network of mentors – they are excellent sounding boards and a potential source for your next career journey “waypoint.” Be clear about your weaknesses and develop an approach to address or minimize them.
